The unintended expat blogger behind Shore Bazaar Farm

Hello, I'm Daan
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent and an expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a work opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should have been.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines settled in. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Shore Bazaar Farm
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site represents:
- Hands-on experience from life in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site does not include:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another travel blog
What’s Next
We will continue our stay in Netherlands and keep learning. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please get in touch.
Best regards,
Daan
